alright so I’m sure that everyone has read this crazy news of China banning 38 anime titles from being seen and distributed. Some the titles include ones that many of us have watched and loved such as Attack On Titan, Death Note, High School Of The Dead, and Black Butler.
Now the reason behind this ban is because many of the anime show graphic violence, dark themes, and in many fighting against authority. It’s seems China feels like watching shows like these will make their citizens want to do these things. Sorry but I think that’s kind of stupid and I don’t agree with this kind of policeing (?) when it comes to forms of entertainment or expression of art.
I mean yes there can be a time and place for it if it’s harmful for society but that seems to be rare and far between. So why ban it? I don’t think the government should have a say in what we can watch but if it’s who can watch it that’s a different story since there is content that isn’t suitable for certain age ranges. But that is purely a suggestion since many of us I’m sure have watched things that we shouldn’t have necessarily been watching.
So it took me some digging but I found a completely list of the anime’s that were banned and here they are:
“Terror in Resonance
Blood-C
Highschool of the Dead
Ergo Proxy
Parasyte
The Skull Man
Another
Inferno Cop
Afro Samurai
Tokyo Ghoul √A
Sword Art Online II
Tokyo ESP
Tokyo Ravens
Devil May Cry
RIN – Daughters of Mnemosyne
The Testament of Sister New Devil
Attack on Titan
Corpse Party
Strike the Blood
Death Note
Deadman Wonderland
Date A Live II
Psycho-Pass
Devilman Lady
School Days
Those Who Hunt Elves
Elfen Lied
High School DxD
Samurai Bride
So, I Can’t Play H!
Girls Bravo: Second Season
Kanokon
Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero
Sakura Diaries
Black Butler
Claymore
Dance in the Vampire Bund”
Now I read that more may be added so we will soon see which of our favorite shows will be added to this already crazy list.
But what do you all think of this and how would you feel or what would you do if your government did this where you lived. Comment down below and let me know!
~Anime Reviewer Girl!
How sad it must be for the people who live in that fascist nation. I’d hate censorship of any kind.
Do you know what china also banned? Time travel!
XD They don’t want people to think about changing the past.
What really?! That is just so crazy.
When you know that doctor who and other time travel shows/films are banned there this news about anime violence being banned ins’t really that shocking.
That is still really crazy though.
Yeah I would hate it too!
I do hate censorship, but I can see where China is going through with it. Even in a democracy, there are books that get banded, but those are only in towns and libraries, the country has no say it it. Good thing about living in America and not needing to worry about it. Plus there would need to be a grand scale reason why anything would get band,
Yeah I can understand why them did it too but I can see certain parts of society doing it like you said but not a whole country.
I agree that this is stupid. This is not fair for the Chinese that want to watch these shows.
Yes its very unfair.
That’s Stupid!! Sometimes we all need some good gore! I mean apparently all artists go through a ‘dark’ stage so they might want to see some of these. I think people in any state should be able to watch these. I’m sorry China, you failed.
Yeah everyone goes through dark moments and to see it depicted and solved can show how you can get through it in some cases.
Exactly!
Sad time for China residents 😢
Yes very sad! 😔
But… So many good anime are in that list (-__-)
I know right! I mean Death Note, Attack On Titan, and Black Butler! Just so sad.
Not surprised at all
True but it still is sad and raises quite a few eyebrows.
Most of my fav animes of all time are in that list. Needless to say – I will never go to live in China.
I definitely agree with you!
Thank god my parents decided to move to America. I find these censorship ridiculous, even though I understand their good intentions. I won’t be shock if there would be outrage from a lot of Chinese anime fans in China.
What I don’t get about this is how they are gonna enforce this… I wonder if they thought about the fact that if people want to watch those series, they are gonna find a way.
Yeah I was wondering that too. I guess we will have to wait and see.
I don’t think its gonna deter anybody though. I just did a quick search on Baidu (the Chinese’s google) and found Death Note, for example, still watchable online :>
Yeah I don’t think it is either. It might make people want to watch them more.
