So todaY’s post is on the more normal side haha but my question is what is your thoughts on long running anime’s?
When I mean long running anime’s I mean any anime that has been going on for years. So I mean anime’s such as Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, or Gintama.
My thoughts on long running anime is that I do like them and have found many of the series facinating and interesting. But I do feel that long running anime series can be daunting and also that the storyline may start to get stale.
Now the reason why I say it can be daunting is because I find if there is a lot of episodes it can feel like a chore to start watching it especially if its still producing more episodes. Now as far as the storyline is concerned for some series it can become the same concept for each arc of the series where there is a new bad guy to fight and the main character is at first too weak to win then they go through intense training to prepare for the fight.
But what do you think of long running anime series. Comment down below to let me know.
~Anime Reviewer Girl!
I like long series but it can be a bit tiresome if they don’t have much of a punch to them, currently I am up to episode 35 of Bleach and I have got about 300 and something episodes left.
Fairy Tail is the same but I usually devote my weekends to watching anime so it isn’t too bad 🙂
I would personally concentrate on Bleach more then FT, I would rewatch it over FT even if it has more episodes. I’m just a bigger fan of FT much more compared to Bleach.
Yeah that’s not too bad but yes they can be tiresome when the same thing happens over and over again.
As long as its kept interesting then it’s ok but sometimes it just doesn’t go very well for most shows….case in point, Naruto >_>
Yeah after a while it can seem like it’s just dragging along.
I like long running series. I really got into anime due to Fairy Tail. Which at the time of starting only had a little over a 100 episodes. I think they are a great way to get into anime and make a great gateway anime, since most people growing up could probably respond in saying that Sailor Moon, DBZ, One Piece, ext were what got them into anime. I would like to check out Naruto or One Piece, but they are very long, and do not have the time since they are well over 500 episodes. Gintama I have been slowly going at, but that has been going on again off again and is only at episode 270 something. I watched Bleach when I was first into anime but got bored around episode 280 since the fights just dragged on for too long, I got that far due to the fact I was not watching any new shows that aired weekly and was going at one show at a time, unlike now. If there was a reasonable way to catch up, then I would definitely try One Piece, or Naruto since they both seem like something I would like. But those two are two of the longest running series out there.
Yes definitely true! For me I got into anime with Sailor Moon and then later on DBZ. So yes long anime series definitely have their place.
Well, you certainly got a point.I don’t go:This anime’s got hundreds of episodes;maybe i shouldn’t start it,though. But after years of watching anime i think that short and intense series can be more powerful.By the way you’ve got a nice blog, keep it up! 😉
Thank you so much! Also thank you for commenting! But I do agree that the short series for me at times I can remember more.
I actually prefer long-running anime series than short ones. Of course, I agree that things may start to go stale, but those are the unfortunate ones. My favourites, so far and thank God, haven’t done so yet, in my opinion. I like series that grow with me.
Definitely true plus with longer anime’s you also seem to get more attached to the characters.
I kinda like them,as I have mentioned before that I was in a Pokemon stage I have to admit,I enjoyed every second of it. But now that I look back on it,it’s extremely ridiculous that it’s gone on this long and I really don’t care about it anymore. I also personally don’t care much for the One Piece series either. So I can like them but it depends on how they do it.
That is also the down side to longer anime’s which is that over time your interest can wane. That’s exactly how I was with Pokemon and also kind of at this time Naruto.
Hey yah! Naruto has been going on way to long now that I think about it.
Lol yes for wayyy to long.
You know,I didn’t realize it until I saw how much there was.
I tend to avoid them. Too much filler and all the hours needed to watch them could be spent on digesting several more concise shows.
True but there are a few longer anime’s where I enjoyed the fillers. Like Inuyasha and a few from Bleach.
Honestly I love long running anime series, Bleach, naruto etc, love em. Only thing I hate is when the series change as it becomes older, usually for the worse or fillers come out of nowhere e.g. the current Naruto Shippuden episodes. Hate the animators ATM.
Definitely have to agree with this especially when it comes to Naruto.
I agree with you that long-running series cam be daunting to follow. This is because I only started watching Naruto this year under the insistence from a good friend of mine for a really long time so I decided to give it a go and never regretted it. But before that, the reason why it took me so long to get started on the series was because there were just so many episodes! But because I got hooked onto Naruto, I managed to marathon the entire thing and catch up to shippuden’s latest episode 😂
Yes before you get started looking at all those episodes can be daunting.
And it was like within 4 months or so? I also skipped lots of fillers to save time but selectively chose to watch the funnier ones hahaha
Omg I love the funny fillers!!! Definitely my favorites!
I like the shorter run series, but I have recently been watching Gintama and like that show a lot. My youngest son is all caught up on Fairy Tail and One Piece and really likes those long form shows.
Yeah I went through a period where I liked all the long shows too and there are still quite a few that I really like.
Dragonball Z
Yup definitely a favorite of mine.
A double-edged sword. Can be absolutely amazing and you can drown in months of nostalgic memories, or you can watch it and hate it at the same time, thinking “Now that I have invested so much time in this, I MUST FINISH IT.”
Omg so true!!! Sometimes that was how I felt about Bleach!!
I’m a bit torn on them. I agree that they are really daunting, and sometimes it feels like a struggle (currently working my way through One Piece), but sometimes the familiarity of them is comforting… it’s good to just watch a few episodes where you know what’s going to happen, and you can sit back and be entertained without having to think too much.
So true! I did that with Sailor moon and even though it’s long and can get repetitive it’s very nostalgic for me.
I don’t mind long running series, I actually like them. We get to enjoy the characters and experience many adventures. That is why I like series like One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach for example.
Yeah you definitely get attached to characters more in longer series.
