This is a quite the topic. I was surprised that you don’t see yourself as an otaku but I respect that. It’s true though, I like anime but it’s not something I would not let it control my life. There are things that can be better than that. It might be a rumor but I heard that Miyazaki doesn’t like gun otakus.
I definitely couldn’t consider myself an otaku, I have too many other interest that I like more than anime and I have a good social life. It seems like a good amount of people who really enjoy anime have identify as otaku and kind of shun the more “normal” people.
I actually can see how that can be. It’s actually a pretty strange concept when you think about it
It’s even more apparent when you go to a convention and you’re basically the only one dressed in Jordans, joggers, and a snapback.
I do consider myself somewhat otaku, more so a huge anime fan. I even have had anime dreams. However, I still maintain a social life with friends and family and I remain humble. The meaning of otaku and its extent basically depends on your perspective of it…at least that’s what I think.
